MoEF&CC Extends Battery EPR Return Filing Deadline to 30th September 2025

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), vide its order dated July 10, 2025, has extended the deadline for filing Annual Returns under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 for the Financial Year 2024–25.

As per the original provisions under Rule 4(11) of the said Rules, producers of batteries were required to file their annual returns by June 30, 2025. However, in response to a request made by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Ministry has granted a three-month extension, allowing producers additional time to comply.

🗓️ Revised Deadline: September 30, 2025

This relaxation has been granted in accordance with Rule 14(6) of the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, which empowers the Central Government to extend timelines for filing returns by producers, recyclers, and refurbishers, for a period not exceeding nine months, to facilitate effective implementation of the regulations.

Producers are advised to use this extended period to compile and submit accurate data regarding the collection, recycling, and refurbishment of waste batteries through the designated Battery EPR Portal.

Failure to file returns within the revised deadline may attract appropriate action under applicable provisions of the environmental laws.

The extension has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
