A professional tax applicable under Article 276 is an indirect tax that the State governments collect from the individual who is practicing a profession such as a lawyer, chartered accountant, doctor, company secretary, and more.

Professional tax registration is a mandatory process that businesses must complete within 30 days of employing staff. In case of multiple work locations, separate registration applications must be submitted for each jurisdiction.

Documents needed for Professional Tax Registration

  • PAN Card of the company, LLP or sole proprietor.
  • Certificate of incorporation.
  • Memorandum of Association (MoA), Article of Association (AOA), Partnership deed, or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) Agreement.
  • Statement of consent or Board resolution.
  • Shop and Establishment Certificate.
  • Address proof of the office comprising NOC from the premises owner.
  • Evidence of Company bank account and Statement of Bank along with a canceled cheque.
  • Salary and attendance register.
  • Proof of address for proprietor, managing director, authorized person, and managing director.

Professional Tax Registration Online Process

  • Go to the official website of APPT registration.
  • By registering through email, generate a password that will enable you to log in.
  • Once you have generated the password and verified your email, log in to begin the registration process.
  • When you click on “New Registration”, please provide the following details:
  1. If you have it, please enter your TIN or ETIN or LTTIN (any one of them).
  2. Enter the application date in the format of DDMMYYYY.
  3. Enter details of EDR.
  4. Select the circle from the list (mandatory).
  5. Enter the details of the category type and provide the name of the company under it.
  6. You may need to provide the PAN of both the individual and the company.
  7. Next, enter the details of the organization’s address, such as the door number, street name or number, locality, name of the city/town/village, and municipality or mandal.
  • Enter the district, PIN code, and mobile number, along with the Service Tax Number and Annual Turnover.
  • Then, input the number of employees and select “Next Step.”
  • A reference number will display on the screen, which you should note for future reference.
  • Finally, click “Ok” to complete the process.

Note – After clicking “OK,” it is important to complete the data entry process by providing all necessary details as required.
